RESTAURANT GUIDE · CHENNAI

Paper ticket, kitchen display, or both?

A KOT printer gives the cook a physical instruction. A kitchen display provides a shared view of open orders. Choose by how your team prepares food, where they stand and how they keep track of work during service.

Updated

Where paper helps

A printed ticket can sit beside a preparation station and be read without turning toward a screen. Test legibility, long item names and quantities on the actual paper width. Check where new tickets collect and whether the printer is accessible when paper needs replacing.

Paper also has a physical workflow: someone must notice it, keep it with the right order and distinguish a new ticket from a reprint or change. Ask the kitchen to demonstrate that routine using two similar sample orders.

Where a display helps

A shared screen can show open tickets to several people at once. In DeccanPro, open kitchen tickets are read independently from the print queue, so printing a KOT does not by itself remove the order from the kitchen display.

Check the display from the real working distance. Review text size, lighting, screen placement, power and the connection to the restaurant setup. A screen that looks comfortable at a desk may be difficult to read from a hot, busy preparation area.

Test both with the same orders

Send a new order, print it and check that the open ticket remains visible on the screen. Add an item and then test a cancellation through the demonstrated workflow. Ask different team members to describe the current order from their respective positions.

You can pair the display and printer with optional arrival sounds or voice announcements. Audio should help staff notice work; the full ticket or display remains the detailed reference. Record who checks the printout, who watches the display and what they do when the two appear inconsistent.

PUT IT INTO PRACTICE
