RESTAURANT GUIDE · CHENNAI

Offline or cloud POS? First, map what connects to what.

Offline can mean several different things. A billing application running on a local computer is different from a phone reaching that computer over Wi-Fi, and both are different from a phone reaching a cloud server over the internet.

Local operation still has dependencies

DeccanPro's core POS and database can run on a shop computer or local server. In that arrangement, local billing does not inherently require an internet connection. The computer still needs power, a working application and access to its database.

Captain phones need a working connection to the POS server. If that server is inside the restaurant, local Wi-Fi can carry the connection even when the internet is unavailable. A broken router or weak Wi-Fi signal is a different failure from a lost internet connection.

A cloud connection uses the internet path

When a captain device connects to a cloud server, that connection needs internet. Online payments and other connected services can also have their own dependencies. Do not interpret local billing support as a promise that every payment method, remote report or integration works offline.

Ask the supplier to draw the server location and the route each device takes. Label the counter, captain handset, kitchen device, router and internet link. The drawing should make it clear which part of the restaurant would be affected by each kind of outage.

Test the failure you actually worry about

Arrange a controlled demonstration outside live service, using sample data and a recovery plan. First test normal operation. Then ask the supplier to demonstrate the effect of an unavailable internet connection while leaving the local network intact. Restore it and verify the order records.

Discuss power failure and router failure separately. Record the expected staff procedure, backup responsibilities and recovery steps. This gives your Chennai restaurant a practical continuity plan rather than a single offline label whose meaning has not been tested.

PUT IT INTO PRACTICE

Your checklist

  • Application and database location known
  • Captain-to-server connection drawn
  • Internet-dependent services listed
  • A controlled outage and recovery demonstrated
